Task 8

Video-Task 8

Doug Macdonald and Melanie Mackinlay live in Scotland, in a small village on the Isle of Skye. Melanie is sixteen, and Doug is fifteen and a half. They go to the village school.

Doug is short for Douglas — it’s a nickname. It’s a typical Scottish name. Melanie pronounces it “Doog”, of course, because she’s got a Scottish accent. Can you understand a Scottish accent? It’s not difficult. Not too difficult…

Melanie’s family, the Mackinlays, live in the village. Doog’s family — that is, Doug’s family, the Macdonalds, live near the sea. They’ve got a boat, and Doug goes sailing every weekend, with his father and his brother and his dog. But Doug’s dream is to go sailing with Melanie…

You see, Doug likes sports, and he likes school. He likes the sea, and he likes sailing. But most of all, he likes Melanie.

Now, Melanie hasn’t got a boyfriend, and Doug hasn’t got a girlfriend. But he’s got an idea… The only problem is that he’s very, very shy…
